This 2021 AQHA pending bay roan filly ‘RHR Smoky Blu Merlot’ certainly lives up to her name — this girl is like a glass of fine wine with her proven pedigree!

Bred under the Rocking Heart Ranch’s foundational breeding program, ‘Merlot’ is a showcasing example of a cow and running cross. She will make an excellent prospect for roping, arena work, ranch work, or trails.

Her sire is one of the ranch’s home-raised studs, with names dating back to Blue Valentine and Joe Hancock. He is a true gentleman known for passing on his great mind, build, bone, and versatility.

Her dam’s lineage includes names such as Guatemala Canal, PC Fire N Smoke, and Boon Dox John. And her extended pedigree is packed with the blood of King, Doc Bar, Driftwood, and Joe Hancock. This cross is expected to mature to 15HH and will showcase a stunning combination of build, bone, muscle, and mind.

In fact, Merlot has already proven her great mind while being showcased in the ‘Rocking Heart Ranch Weanling Competition.’ Within this event, she completed 30 days of groundwork under a trainer before showing in the competition. She was taught how to lead, tie, send, pick up her feet, accept de-wormer/things in her mouth, get flagged out, back up, cross obstacles, trailer load, maintain forward motion, etc. She was shown in an indoor arena (in front of an audience with loudspeakers) and handled it like a champ.

This girl will make someone an incredible partner, and with her wonderful foundation, it won’t take much to finish her off in a few years!
